Color Correction

Only perform the following instructions when asked to do so by a Pollen Sense Technician. Improper use of these instructions may cause your APS-400 Sensor to malfunction.

Due to varying factors related to the hardware used in the APS-400, images captured by the sensor may begin to inaccurately represent the true colors of the sampled particles. To prevent this from happening, a color correction is to be performed on the sensor 1-2 times a year, or roughly every other media cartridge exchange. The color correction tool (shown below) allows the sensor to make any necessary color adjustments to its internal camera to maintain true color of the particulate in frames. Once the tool is properly installed, a member of the Pollen Sense Support team will remotely access the sensor and correct its color settings. Please review the instructions below in their entirety before attempting to install the color correction tool.

Instructions:

  1. Open the Particle Sense app and access the sensor that requires the color correction.

  2. Toggle “Collect Samples” to Off.

  3. Close the app and remove the power cable from the sensor to shut it off. The data collected by the sensor is stored on our Portal, you do not risk losing data by doing this.

  4. Open the lid of the sensor and remove the media cartridge (tape cassette) from within it. Keep the yellow thumbscrew in hand to be used later.

  5. Insert the color correction tool in place of the media cartridge, as shown below. Use the yellow thumbscrew removed in the previous step to securely install. slideinto

  6. Close the lid of the sensor.

  7. Plug the power cable back into the sensor and ensure it is connected to the internet via the Particle Sense app.

  8. Inform the Pollen Sense Technician you are in contact with that you have completed the instructions above and the sensor is ready to have its color corrected.

Please allow up to 24 hours for the color correction to finish. If you have any concerns or questions, reach out to the Pollen Sense Technician your are in contact with and they will be happy to help.

Once you have received confirmation that the color correction has been completed on your sensor, please reinstall the media cartridge according to the instructions found here: Media Cartridge Installation Guide
