Pre-Arrival Checklist
Join Your Pollen Sense Portal Organization ✅
The Pollen Sense Portal is where you will access all the data your sensor collects. Before your sensor arrives, you need to create your portal account and join your organization.
When you purchased your sensor, you provided an email to our sales team. This email address will receive an invitation to join an organization in the portal — typically named after your business (or your name, if it’s a personal account).
Here’s how to get set up:
-
Check your inbox for an email invite from Pollen Sense with the subject line “Finish Setting up your Pollen Sense Account“.
-
Click the link in the invite and register your account using the same email address that received the invitation.
-
Verify your email address when prompted.
-
Log in at portal.pollensense.com.
-
Once logged in, you’ll see a green “Accept” button next to your organization’s name. Click it to join.
-
You’re now ready to move on and log into the Particle Sense app using the same credentials to finish your sensor setup.
-
For more detailed information about the Pollen Sense portal and how to navigate it, please see Pollen Sense Portal.
Notes:
a) If you can’t find the invite, don’t worry — just go to portal.pollensense.com and create an account using the same email you used with our sales team. The system will link your invite automatically if it’s still pending.
b) From time to time our team will reach out to you regarding your sensor when necessary. Please refrain from using a generic or role-based email such as “info@company.com” to prevent support emails from getting lost.
Download Particle Sense App ✅
The APS-400 sensor requires the Particle Sense companion app to be downloaded to your mobile device for set up. You will use the app to assign the sensor to its Site, establish an internet connection, monitor its Health Status as it operates, and much more. Download the app here:
More information on the Particle Sense app can be found here.
Internet Source ✅
The sensor must be connected to the internet via Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or cellular data for proper operation. If you are a cooperate customer you will want to make sure your IT department has reviewed the network requirement form which our sales team shared with you. If Static IP is required we need to do some things on our end before shipping. Additional Fees may be incurred if our team has to assist. Here is a link to our Sensor Networking Page with details.
Band Width Generally, 5mbps (megabits per second) connection speed should be sufficient for the sensor to operate, but 10mbps or higher is recommended. The total monthly data consumption is typically 27-33GB.
Cellular: It is not recommended to use cellular data for your sensor’s source of internet, as it is neither stable nor reliable. But sometimes there is no other option. Personal mifis have been very problematic. An enterprise grade cellular router like this one from Unifi will provide you with the best experience. Pollen Sense Support cannot assist in troubleshooting any cellular-related issues.

Power Source ✅
Some Sites are remote and require solar panels to power the sensor. To help you plan your solar power system, the APS-400 sensor uses 10 watts average, 15 watts peak.
Before your sensor arrives it is recommended that you plan how to get power to your sensor. It is likely that you will need to purchase an extension cord in order to deploy the sensor in your desired location. The power cord for your sensor is 3ft in length and uses either the U.S. & E.U. standard AC power outlets. Please specify which outlet you will need or if you have other specific voltage needs based on your location.
Mounting the APS400 ✅
The sensor is designed to be suspended at least 1 meter (3 feet) above the ground while operating. Our recommended mounting options can be found here. The back plate of the sensor is capable of attaching to a wide variety of fixtures, including VESA mounts (TV Mounts). We also provide two steel zip ties that allow you to secure the sensor to a vertical or horizontal pole. If needed, ask your Pollen Sense representative for additional mounting methods. It also must be orientated on its mount with the antenna and power connection must face down, towards the ground. Improper orientation may cause the sensor’s internal microscope to malfunction when focusing on particulate.
